Our co-curricular highlights
Public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through public speaking. Each year our students have the opportunity to compete in the Premier's Public Speaking competition, where they compete on a local level and can advance to state events.
Creative and performing arts - Far North Coast Dance Festival
Our students have the opportunity to be creative and showcase their talent by participating in the annual Far North Coast Dance Festival.
Excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world. Our past excursions have included Tropical Fruit World, Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Sea World, Brisbane Planetarium, St Helena Island, Connecting to Culture and more.
STEM
Cudgen Public School Stage 3 students take part in the STEM Olympiad at Kingscliff High School. The initiative is part of our Coastal Learning Community (CLC) that also includes a number of other primary school in our area.
The students worked in teams of three across a series of activities and challenges and were awarded points based on design, building and working collaborative as a team.
Spelling Bee
Our school proudly takes part in the NSW Premiers Spelling Bee every year. This helps our students improve at spelling and feel confident when speaking in front of others. The champions from each stage advance to compete in the Far North Coast Spelling Bee, where they represent our school and compete with other schools in the region.
Camps
Each year our school offers the opportunity for Stage 2 & 3 students to attend a school camp. This exciting opportunity gives students learning experiences beyond the classroom whilst building confidence.
Aboriginal Education
Our school proudly celebrates its rich history and culture, offering a unique learning experience through the guidance of an Aboriginal Elder on staff who teaches the Bundjalung language. This special connection allows students to deeply engage with and appreciate Aboriginal culture, making our school a truly inclusive and culturally enriching place to learn.
NAIDOC Week
At Cudgen Public School, we proudly celebrate NAIDOC week. Our celebrations begin with a special flag-raising ceremony to mark the start of the week. Throughout the week, students take part in various activities that help everyone learn about and appreciate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We finish the week with a cake-cutting ceremony to bring everyone together and celebrate.
Harmony Day
Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. We encourage our students and staff to wear orange to show our support during this celebration.
